Shane Callahan – CISO at Vanderbilt University
Shane has over 25 years of experience in technology, intelligence, and leadership roles. He is currently serving as Vanderbilt’s first CISO.
Before joining Vanderbilt, Shane was the Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of naviHealth, an Optum Company. This role required transforming the way naviHealth approached cybersecurity and being the first CISO for naviHealth.
Prior to his tenure at naviHealth, Shane served four years of active duty in the Air Force and twelve years in the Navy Reserves. During this time, he worked as an Intelligence Officer, focusing on Cyber/Information Warfare, HUMINT (Human Intelligence), and PSYOPS (Psychological Operations). After several deployments, Shane resigned his commission to spend more time at home with his family. Shane has also led the Data Protection program for Deloitte Global. At Tractor Supply Co., he led the Information Security, Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery, and Privacy teams.
Shane enjoys teaching and spent nearly ten years as an adjunct at a local university, focusing on IT and security. He is also a board member and founding member of the Nashville Chapter of the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA). Shane also held a seat on the Nashville Mayor’s Information Security Advisory Board (ISAB) and serves in an advisory capacity for several agencies and organizations. He is also a graduate of the FBI CISO Academy.
Residing in Nashville for 20 years, Shane lives in Nolensville with his wife, Brianne, and their three children: Eliza, Louisa, and Evan. He is a lifelong touring and recording musician and hopes to stop skateboarding someday soon.
